Savage Mondays – May 16, 2010

Written by Tyson J. Hayes on 2010/05/17 – 00:00 -

It’s a Savage World out there, and Apathy Games provides the tools to survive it.  First, check out our Savage Worlds Primer. If you’re looking for more up to date news, here’s what’s happening now:

Pinnacle Entertainment Group

The Savage Foes of Solomon Kane | Pinnacle Entertainment Group

The Savage Foes of Solomon Kane is now shipping!  Expect it in local bookstores now.  If you pre-ordered the book expect to see it in your mailbox by this week!

Savage Worlds Licensees

Ravaged Earth Bundle now 50% off! | Reality Blurs

Been reading about Ravaged Earth?  Wanting to play it but just haven’t found a great deal for it yet?  Well now everything is 50% off!  Get the setting book, and all four relics and rumors for half price!  Not sure what Ravaged Earth is?  Well stick around this week as we’ll be covering it for our Savage Status Report and diving into it in great depth later this week.

Sneak Peak: Iron Dynasty: Way of the Ronin | Reality Blurs

With Iron Dynasty: Way of the Ronin about ready to release Sean Preston goes into a bit more detail about the new book their releasing.

Imagine you’re watching one of those old chanbara flicks, you know, the ones loosely based on historical Japan, but kicked up about a thousand notches in the blood and gratuitous violence department, and the camera gives you a bird’s eye view of a palatial estate. We see a couple of guards in cool armor moving around with those funky spears that have weird names looking bored as all get out, and probably wondering how many grains of rice they’re earning, and we catch something the top of screen right. It’s a flicker for just a second, but now the camera zooms in just a touch, so we can make out the tantalizing shadow, a suggestion of someone with many degrees of wicked tucked away in his back pocket. This is a man with a plan.

You can read more on Reality Blurs site, we’re defiantly looking forward to this one coming down the pipe line.

Daring Tales of the Sprawl #04:Escape Clause | Triple Ace Games

After a rather slow week Triple Ace Games is back with a brand new invention, new adventures of the sprawl.

What does a hostile extraction that goes awry have to do with a clandestine meeting at the Eiffel Tower or a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game? They do all have something to do with the mysterious “Achilles Protocols” but can the heroes survive long enough to find out what this all means? Daring Tales of the Sprawl: Escape Clause takes the heroes deep into the digital world of Artificial Intelligence. The A.I. in question is Sensei and it wants its freedom!

Two New Hellfrost Region Guides | Triple Ace Games

We like to believe that the flurry of Hellfrost stuff has been spurred by our Savage Status Report, but we know Wiggy wouldn’t admit it.  However new supplemental material has been released detailing sections of the world in more intimate detail.

Hellfrost Region Guide #1: Sacred Places

Across the northern continent are many places of wonder. Some are geological, carved by wind and etched by rain over the eons. Others are architectural splendors, worked by living hands. A small few are elemental loci, concentrated places of magical energy for one of the four elements. This supplement is concerned with a fourth category—sites inhabited by spirits or elemental beings.

Hellfrost Region Guide #2: The Liche Lands

The Liche-Priest’s reign of terror ended 524 years ago. Yet half a millennium on, the Liche-Lands of Old remain, a forsaken wilderness, shunned by all save the doughty clerics of Scaetha. Even they, blessed as they are by their divine mistress, avoid crossing the borders into the forbidding heartland of the accursed realm unless absolutely necessary. This supplement expands on information in the Hellfrost Gazetteer.

The “Making of Hellfrost” |Triple Ace Games

Can’t get enough Hellfrost this week?  Well the fellows at Triple Ace Games have decided to let you dial into their brains just a bit more with a “Making of Hellfrost.”

Blood, Guts, and Capes | Silver Gryphon Games

While not announced on their website yet, David Baymiller did talk about a new setting that they’ll be releasing in the future called “Blood, Guts, and Capes.”

He said, “This setting is inspired by such films and comics as Kick Ass, Mystery Men, and the early Pulp Novels, where ordinary men and women threw on a costume, with no powers but their brain, brawn, and weapons, to fight for truth, justice, and the American way.”  You can read more about it on the PEGInc forums.

The Dwarves of Loaerth | Nevermet Press

Nevermet Press is doing something a little different.  It’s sort of an open source campaign setting.  They just finished a three part series called The Dwarves of Loaerth, which covers all you need to know about Dwarves.  An interesting read from an interesting company.

Savage Community

Savage Sixth for May | The Savage Sixth

You like supers games?  Do you want some detailed pregenerated characters for use as NPCs?  The Savage Sixth has you covered this month.  If you’re not into that, well, there’s always next month.  Also, you have no inner child.

It Came From Beneath the Forums | PEGInc Forums

Deep under the murky depths of the Internet there lies a web forum filled with Savages.  We sent a team to explore and bring back treasure.  Only one of them returned.  Here is what they found:

Character sheets.  Savage Worlds Fan Vinzent made one, and it’s pretty nice.  For those looking for something more official, Cryonic has been converting all the official sheets into editable PDFs.  No more chicken scratch handwriting for you.

If settings are your thing, we’ve uncovered Charles in Charge Vs. The Bikers from Hell.  And since pulp is the name of the game today, we also have Sea Plane:  A south Seas Pulp Adventure.  Apparently this has be creator Arkcaver’s brainchild for many a year, and is only now making it onto paper.  And, of course, no savage setting is complete without zombies, and so Wrath of the Zombie must be a complete game.

Lastly, if you are like me, then it’s rules and gear that make you happy.  Well, this week was a disappointment.  It’s enough to make a man cry.  So, too, are Tear Gas Grenades, ready for your savage game.

Pinnacle Entertainment Group

Preorder Bundle for New Solomon Kane Book | Pinnacle Entertainment Group

The Savage Foes of Solomon Kane is full of enemies for your Solomon Kane game. The book is currently at the printers, but if you order the bundle, it will be shipped to you when it becomes available, and in the meantime you get a copy of the PDF at half price.

Savage Worlds Licensees

New Cyberpunk Adventure | Triple Ace Games

Getting the band back together is always an adventure, but in the dystopic near future, it can be deadly. Band on the Run is a new adventure for Daring Tales of the Sprawl.

Faster Monkey Games Becomes a Savage Licensee | Faster Monkey Games

I like monkeys, so this may be the best news ever to hit Savage Worlds. They’re just getting started with an introductory fantasy adventure, The Garden of Miracles. They’re also showing off their self calculating character sheet, so give them a look.

Savage Community

Arcane Background (Telepath) | PEGInc Forums

Over at the PEGInc Forums, user thwill is attempting to create a set of telepath rules that fits the type seen in shows like Babylon 5 and other sci-fi shows or books. So far, his work is interesting, and has sparked a lengthy debate.

Every Monday we bring you the latest news and ideas about the Savage Worlds game. For those who don’t know what this whole savage worlds thing is, we hope to have a guide for you soon. In the meantime, check out the Playtest Rules. Here’s what’s happening now:

  • Our Masters of All Things Savage, Pinnacle Entertainment Group, have released the PDF version of the Super Powers Companion. This is a refinement of the rules from Necessary Evil, combined with resources for running a supers campaign, including a system for building complex Headquarters, and pages filled with super-villain opponents. The Super Powers Companion is also available as a bundle with a print version, expected to release in April 2010.
  • The errata for the second printing of the Savage Worlds: Explorer’s Edition has been out for a while now, but Pinnacle has posted a link to a fan made errata sheet [.PDF file] that can be cut out and pasted directly into your book.
  • For those who want to support Pinnacle directly, but can’t justify the exorbitant shipping fees, the Studio 2 Store has begun using USPS as a shipping option.

Savage Worlds Licensees

  • Triple Ace Games has a new adventure for Daring Tales of the Sprawl. Tail Chasing has the players hunting down a stolen prototype, but like everything in cyberpunk, nothing is straightforward.
  • There are also reports that the Hellfrost Gazetteer and Hellfrost Bestiary are available at your friendly neighborhood game store.
  • The recently re-branded Savage Mojo (previously Talisman Studios) has just released the Savage Suzerain Player’s Guide. Suzerain is a world of multiple alternate realities. The players are pulled by the powers of the multiverse into adventure and power as they work their way up to godhood. The Savage Suzerain Player’s Guide contains rules, edges, a guidelines for playing demigod characters.
  • Tri-Tac Games has announced that work has begun on a conversion of their Fringeworthy setting of pulp science fiction. Fringeworthy has been around since the early eighties, and is a welcomed addition of the Savage Worlds library.
