Savage Insider Vol. 1 Now Out

I was quite honored when Aaron of Mystical Throne Entertainment approached me to write a developers diary, and a round robin Q&A for Savage Insider Vol. 1. Not only do I get to ramble on about my favorite Savage setting, but I get to join the ranks of White Haired Man, Reality Blurs, and Triple Ace Games as actual licensees; recognized and everything!

Apathy Games on The Game’s The Thing Podcast

Last week we recorded with Ron and Veronica Blessing over at their podcast, The Game’s the Thing. Those two are great people, and we had a lot of fun (and we’re not just saying that because of social etiquette. Fun, I assure you, was had.)

We discussed, in depth, many of our design philosophies for Temporal Probability Agency.

Check out the episode at the The Game’s the Thing website.

The End of the To Predict and Serve Complete Pack

To coincide with the Temporal Probability Agency: To Predict and Win contest, we’re also announcing the end of the Complete Pack’s availability. The To Predict and Serve Complete Pack comes with the Agent’s Handbook and Act I of To Predict and Serve, plus will be updated to include Acts II and III when they become available. This is your last opportunity to pick up all three acts for the low price of $9.99. One week after the contest ends, so too will sales of the Complete Pack. So, if you enter and don’t win, you still have a week to pick it up.

We know you’re all sad at this announcement.  It’s OK, Timmy is too.  We thank everyone who has bought the Complete Pack thus far, it’s been fantastic seeing the support for the game thus far.  If you’ve picked it up already let us know what you think in the comments, it’s always awesome to hear feedback.

Win a Copy of the TPA Complete Pack

We’ve been quite happy with the reviews and praise for Temporal Probability Agency. It’s garnered us attention from all over, with people wanting to talk with us about the ideas behind the TPA and how we came up with the adventures.

We’ve been happy to answer, but it got us thinking: what kind of objectives would you, our fans come up with? So we decided to ask the question, and back it up with a little prize. The winner will receive a copy of TPA: To Predict and Serve Complete Pack, with a copy of the Temporal Probability Agency Core given to two runners up.

Web Design is Game Design

As you can see, we’ve done some upgrading around here. In addition to looking good, it should be even easier to read and find information. Even the search functions been improved. Please, take a look around. Let me know what’s broken, what you like and don’t like, and feel free to offer suggestions.

Why Spend Time on This?

It’s not so much that we needed a better theme, but that I was learning how to make one. I’ve been doing a lot of studying lately, trying to learn better ways of presenting information, interfaces, articles, and more. See, I firmly believe that the tabletop gaming industry is moving online, and I plan to be ready for it.

Agent’s First Adventure: Flight 101

It’s been a little over a month since we first announced Temporal Probability Agency. Since then, we’ve been heads down finishing up the editing process, banging out heads against walls, and making sacrifices to the InDesign gods. As editing and layout are not my primary function, I got the more fun task of reading through our adventure. My read-through brought up all the memories and debates that have gone into lovingly craft this adventure, and I began to realize how little we’ve actually talked about it. You see, we’ve lived and breathed this adventure for a while. Our weekly meetings have been spent discussing it. Our game schedules overridden. So many of our brain cycles devoted to it. And so few blog posts mentioning it.

Understanding Valve Time

Joel Kinstle, of Pinnacle, once told me that if it were up to him he wouldn’t announce a book until it was on its way to the printers—in other words, when it was done. Valve, on the other hand, has Valve Time, which is a frustrating temporal hole where “every 6 months” means every couple of years for Half Life 2 episodes, and Christmas 2007 means sometime between now and the Rapture. They effectively string along fans with an endless cycle of waiting and changing release dates. With the announcement of Temporal Probability Agency, I find myself understanding both philosophies. When inquiring about our own internal release calendar I was given the frustrating response, “When it’s done.” Refraining from punching my business partner in the teeth, I started thinking about the long history that brought us here.
